Between 1570 and 1620, in three separate wars with France, Navarra grew spectacularly to include most of France's former territory. Spain also made more modest gains, principally in the east. Having occupied Paris at one stage, the Navarrans now had maps of the New World and founded their first colony in Penobscot.
