| I know I've done this at least five times. The first time was with Crusaders in 1973, when I was only twelve - I have the date marked in a pocket diary from that year. The second was I think with the family on the 19th June 1976 - I can still picture the wooden walkways leading away from the NTS Visitor Centre over boggy expanses of peat. The third time was in snow and ice during a stay at Firbush Point, which was, I think, on an Edinburgh Psychology Department reading party around March 1986. In any case, these are the only Munros I've ever climbed in winter conditions, and I really enjoyed the experience. Walking over ice in crampons feels far safer than walking anywhere else in just boots! Then in July 2004 I visited the summit of Ben Lawers once more when doing the horseshoe round Lochan nan Cat - Meall Greigh, Meall Garbh and An Stuc. Most recently I did four of the Lawers Munros with Howard the day after his Last Munro. This definitely makes Ben Lawers my most-climbed Munro, since I don't think I've climbed any others more than twice. |
